Bek & Alex
Let’s dance.
Gerringong Town Hall Wedding
People ask, how do we get great photos?
Simple.
Have a good time.
Be present.
Love each other.
That’s it.
Maybe one addition. Be yourselves. Because this is a collaboration. The art doesn’t come from the camera but from the interplay between the person behind it and the people in front of it. I (almost) never go into a wedding with a firm idea of what the photo’s are going to look like, what the feeling is going to be. It develops as the day does, as people welcome me into their circles, as I start to get a sense of who they are and how they relate, as I start feeling less like a stranger and more like a friend along for the ride with a camera in tow.
Bek & Alex having an uproariously grand time, fully present, loving the bejeezus out each other (sidebar one of my favourite subset of images is one partner looking at the other when the other isn’t aware of it, see slide 3).
These are two people who clearly love easily. Who laugh easily. Who are generous in spirit and words and time. All the love they gave out was reflected back at them. You could see it in the way people gazed at them whilst they gave a speech, hear it the collective eruption as they walked out of the ceremony, feel it in warmth that pervaded every moment.
