Tips & Tricks

You and your guests get exclusive access to the art gallery before the ceremony

Ever dreamed of having the Art Gallery all to yourself? Now you can. For both your guests and to take photos.

You have the option of the catering to be done by Matt Moran’s team

All the catering options are exceptional but this is a great way to treat your guests to a singular experience.

Ceremony Space Options & Limitations

The NSW Art Gallery has multiple ceremony spaces depending on size and your aesthetics, with the stipulation that ceremonies don’t typically start until 6PM after the gallery has closed for the day. However, as a bonus as above you and your guests typically get exclusive access to the gallery from 5 15PM onward. This is included even if you choose to have your ceremony elsewhere, which some people do to maximise time spent with their guests.

NSW Art Gallery Ceremony Options

There are two main ceremony spots at the Art Gallery, one in the main hall surrounded by all the art, and one in the function room with panoramic views over the city.

Kaldor Hall - surrounded by art and the beauty of the main hall

Art Gallery Function Room - minimal elegance with city views

Other Nearby Ceremony Options - The Botanic Gardens

If the 6 PM start time is a deal breaker, couples often choose to have their ceremony at one of a variety of spots in the Botanic Gardens. A popular option is to have an earlier ceremony and then drinks and canapes in the Gardens, followed by the reception at the Art Gallery. See some examples below, all within walking distance.

Palm House

You can have a ceremony either within, or just outside the Palm House. You can see examples of both below.

What It Could Look (and feel ) Like

I’ve shot scores of weddings at the NSW Art Gallery. It is sincerely one of my favourite venues to shoot in Sydney. Here’s what it could look like if you get married there. Note I’ve only included examples from one wedding as the Art Gallery requires express written permission for vendors to publish any photographs due to copyright of the artworks. Artwork have been blurred in some images for publication here, but are not for the couples copy.

You can also see a full wedding shot at the NSW Art Gallery if you want to get a better feel for it here.
